What types of animals are permitted in the cabin?
Dogs, cats, and ferrets can be taken on board LOT planes. Only cats and dogs (not ferrets) are permitted on flights to Canada.
What is the maximum weight allowed for a pet in the cabin?
The combined weight of the animal and its carrier may not exceed 8 kg.
What are the carrier size requirements for in-cabin pet travel?
For B787 and B737 planes: 55x40x20 cm (length/width/height). For E70, E75, E90, E95 planes: 45x30x20 cm. Soft bags are permitted in the cabin. The animal must fully fit inside with freedom of movement.
Can pets travel in the cargo hold, and what are the requirements?
Yes. Animals above 8 kg travel in the baggage hold. The container must comply with IATA Live Animals Regulations: rigid materials (no welded or wire mesh), adequate size for the animal to stand, turn, and lie down, ventilated on at least three sides, secure, lined with absorbent material, and equipped with food and water containers. Brachycephalic breeds are banned from the hold but may travel as cargo via LOT Cargo. Flights to the UK and UAE allow animal transport only as cargo. Flights to Iceland do not allow animal transport at all.
What are the fees for traveling with a pet?
The cost depends on the pet's weight, size, and breed. Exact prices are shown during the booking process or via Manage My Booking. Guide/assistance dogs travel free of charge.
Is there a limit on the number of pets per passenger or per flight?
Only one animal is allowed per passenger in the cabin (exception: two small animals of the same species may share one carrier if the combined weight with carrier does not exceed 8 kg). The total number of animals per flight is limited depending on aircraft type. Reduced limits apply on flights to the USA and Canada.
Are there any breed restrictions for pets traveling in the cabin or cargo?
Yes. Brachycephalic (short-muzzled/flat-faced) dog and cat breeds are prohibited from traveling in the baggage hold. Affected dog breeds include Boxer, Bulldog (all breeds), Pug (all breeds), Shih Tzu, Chihuahua, Chow Chow, Pekingese, and others. Affected cat breeds include Persian, Exotic, Himalayan, British Shorthair, and Scottish Fold. These breeds may still travel in the cabin if weight and carrier size requirements are met, or as cargo via LOT Cargo. The ban also applies to crossbreeds and animals with brachycephalic characteristics.
What documents and health certificates are required to travel with a pet?
Required documents include: an up-to-date vaccination record (including rabies), a valid veterinary health certificate issued no more than 48 hours before departure, a special animal passport with coat description, breed, sex, and microchip/tattoo number, and a microchip implant. For EU travel, an EU pet passport is also required. For flights to the USA, CDC-compliant documentation is required for dogs.
How do I book a flight for my pet, and can I do it online?
You can check availability and book pet transport when purchasing your ticket on lot.com, or later (up to 12 hours before departure) via Manage My Booking. For dogs traveling to the USA, documents must be submitted at least 48 hours before departure for verification before the service can be confirmed. Cat transport to the USA can currently only be booked via the Contact Center.
Are there special requirements for international travel with a pet?
Yes. For flights to the USA, dogs are subject to new CDC regulations (effective August 1, 2024): must show no signs of illness, be at least 6 months old, have a microchip, and have proof of rabies vaccination. Dogs from high-risk countries may only enter the USA at JFK, LAX, or MIA. For the UK and UAE, animals may only travel as cargo. For Iceland, animal transport is not allowed. For Japan, animals must undergo import quarantine (up to 180 days if requirements are not met). For Canada, cats and dogs are allowed but not ferrets, and reduced hold limits apply. For EU travel, an EU pet passport with microchip/tattoo number is required. For import from third countries into the EU, microchipping, rabies vaccination, and (for some countries) a rabies antibody titration test are required.
Are there temperature-related restrictions for pets traveling in the cargo hold?
The temperature inside the baggage hold is appropriately adjusted for animal transport, so passengers do not need to worry about temperature conditions. However, it is recommended to provide water for pets traveling in the hold.
What is the airline's policy on sedating pets during travel?
Giving tranquillisers to pets should be consulted with a veterinarian before travel.
Is there a dedicated contact for pet travel inquiries?

For cargo transport questions, contact the Cargo and Post Office Operations and Customer Service Department at +48 22 606 77 77 or +48 22 606 80 88.
