- What types of animals are permitted in the cabin?

- What are the carrier size requirements for in-cabin pet travel?
- Cats and dogs do not travel in the cabin. For checked baggage/cargo, the total dimensions of the pet container/cage must not exceed 118 inches (300cm). The carrier must be adequately sized, well-ventilated with nose- and paw-proof openings, and of sufficient strength to prevent escape. Use Qatar Airways' kennel size calculator (based on IATA guidelines) to determine the minimum required size.
- Can pets travel in the cargo hold, and what are the requirements?
- Yes. Cats, dogs, and birds can travel as checked baggage in the hold on most routes, provided they meet weight and size guidelines (up to 75kg and 300cm total dimensions). Animals exceeding these limits, non-domestic animals, animals travelling alone, or those connecting with other airlines must travel as Qatar Airways Cargo. Travel to/from Australia or New Zealand must be as cargo due to local regulations. Australia arrivals are only processed through Melbourne (MEL).
- What are the fees for traveling with a pet?
- Checked baggage fees: Medium (up to 32kg): USD 200/CAD 260 to/from Qatar; USD 350/CAD 455 all other routes. Large (32–75kg): USD 300/CAD 390 to/from Qatar; USD 450/CAD 590 all other routes. Animals over 75kg or 300cm total dimensions are handled as cargo (separate rates apply). Fees apply regardless of whether free baggage allowance is utilised.
- Is there a limit on the number of pets per passenger or per flight?
- There is a limit on the number of pets/animals per cabin (for falcons, one per passenger in Economy Class). No more than one pet per carrier is allowed. Contact Qatar Airways at least 48 hours before departure to confirm space availability.
- Are there any breed restrictions for pets traveling in the cabin or cargo?
- Yes. Certain breeds of dogs and cats that are susceptible to increased risk of heat stroke when exposed to stress or temperatures above 21°C (69.8°F) are restricted. Visit Qatar Airways' 'Restricted breeds' page for the full list.
- What documents and health certificates are required to travel with a pet?
- Required documents include: a health certificate signed by a veterinarian within 10 days before the travel date certifying the animal is fit to fly; up-to-date vaccinations as required by the destination country (rabies vaccination is mandatory for most international travel); microchip and/or pet passport if required by the destination country; and compliance with all import regulations and quarantine requirements of the destination country.
- How do I book a flight for my pet, and can I do it online?
- You must submit an online request or contact Qatar Airways at least 48 hours before departure to confirm space availability and ensure compliance with airline and country pet policies. For cargo transport, contact a Qatar Airways Cargo office. Arrive at the airport check-in desk at least 2 hours before departure.
- Are there special requirements for international travel with a pet?
- Yes. Destination country import regulations and quarantine requirements must be followed. Rabies vaccination is mandatory for most international travel. Some countries require microchipping and a pet passport. Travel to/from Australia or New Zealand must be as cargo; Australia arrivals only through Melbourne (MEL). Dogs travelling to the US must meet CDC requirements. Commercial dogs from high-risk rabies countries are no longer permitted entry into Canada; personal/assistance dogs from high-risk countries may still enter if all import and documentation requirements are met.
- Are there temperature-related restrictions for pets traveling in the cargo hold?
- Certain breeds susceptible to heat stroke at temperatures above 21°C (69.8°F) are restricted. Qatar Airways reserves the right to refuse transport if the carrier is too small or conditions are unsuitable.
- Is there a dedicated contact for pet travel inquiries?
- Yes. Contact Qatar Airways directly (via the contact page or nearest Qatar Airways office) at least 48 hours before departure. For cargo, contact the nearest Qatar Airways Cargo office. For Australia/New Zealand travel, contact Post Entry Quarantine Services at PEQservices@agriculture.gov.au or 1800 900 090.
