Service Animals (SVAN) are dogs individually trained to perform tasks for the benefit of their owner with a disability or health condition (e.g. guide dogs, medical alert dogs). Emotional Support Animals (ESAN) are accepted in countries where permitted. All conditions and required documentation must be met. Search dogs for disaster survivors with prior certification are exempt from fees on humanitarian missions.

Documentation Required

  • Health certificate issued by a veterinarian, dated no more than 10 days prior to travel, including pet name, age, breed, vaccinations and statement of good health (original + copy)
  • Destination/origin/connection-specific health documents (e.g. vaccination certificates, import permits, entry authorizations, blood tests, microchip records) — passenger's responsibility to verify

What types of animals are permitted in the cabin?

Is there a limit on the number of pets per passenger or per flight?
In the cabin: 1 pet per passenger; up to 5 pets per flight in Economy, 1 in Premium Economy. In the hold: up to 2 pets per passenger, each in its own kennel; maximum 2 pets in hold per flight on single-aisle aircraft; no set limit on wide-body aircraft (subject to availability).
Are there any breed restrictions for pets traveling in the cabin or cargo?
Yes. Brachycephalic and potentially dangerous dog breeds, and brachycephalic cat breeds, are not accepted in the hold. How do I book a flight for my pet, and can I do it online?
Pet travel must be booked and confirmed in advance via LATAM's Contact Center, WhatsApp, or at sales offices. It cannot be fully booked online. For cabin travel, booking must be made up to 4 hours before departure; for hold travel, up to 48 hours before departure. Boarding passes are only issued at the airport.
Are there special requirements for international travel with a pet?
Yes. Requirements vary by destination and it is the passenger's responsibility to check them. For Colombia, a Sanitary Inspection Certificate (CIS) from the ICA is required. For Brazil, an International Veterinary Certificate (IVC) or recognized Pet Passport is required (European Pet Passport is not accepted). For the US, CDC requirements apply, including microchip, rabies vaccination, CDC importation form, and minimum age of 6 months. Dogs vaccinated outside the US entering from high-rabies-risk countries require an Animal Care Facility reservation and rabies serology report.
Are there temperature-related restrictions for pets traveling in the cargo hold?
Yes. On domestic Brazilian flights, pet transport in the hold is not available on flights departing or arriving between 10:01 a.m. and 3:59 p.m. Pets in the hold are not permitted on flights to/from New York City or Boston from December 15 through April 15 due to low temperatures; however, pets may travel in the cabin during this period if cabin conditions are met.
