What types of animals are permitted in the cabin?
Only small dogs and cats are permitted in the cabin on JetBlue. No large dogs are accommodated. Emotional support animals are no longer accepted.
What is the maximum weight allowed for a pet in the cabin?
JetBlue does not specify a maximum weight for pets in the cabin. The requirement is that the pet must fit comfortably in an approved carrier that fits under the seat in front of you, and the pet must be able to stand up and turn around comfortably inside the closed carrier.
What are the carrier size requirements for in-cabin pet travel?
The pet carrier cannot exceed 17" L x 12.5" W x 8.5" H (43.18 cm L x 31.75 cm W x 21.59 cm H). Carriers must have leak-proof bottoms and be well ventilated. Both soft-sided and hard-sided carriers are accepted. Only one pet is allowed per carrier. FAA-approved carriers can be purchased online or at the JFK T5 ticket counter for USD $55 (quantities limited).
Can pets travel in the cargo hold, and what are the requirements?
No. JetBlue does not accept dogs or cats in cargo — only in the cabin. JetBlue also does not accept pet remains, cremated or otherwise, in the cabin or as cargo.
What are the fees for traveling with a pet?
The pet fee is $150 USD each way. It can be added during booking in the Extras section, or paid later in Manage Trips on jetblue.com or My Trips on the JetBlue app. The fee can also be paid with TrueBlue points before check-in. If bringing a second pet, a second seat and a second pet fee must be paid.
Is there a limit on the number of pets per passenger or per flight?
A maximum of two pets per traveler is allowed, each in their own carrier. A second pet requires purchase of a second seat plus a second pet fee. A total of 6 pets are allowed on each flight, so it's best to book early.
Are there any breed restrictions for pets traveling in the cabin or cargo?
JetBlue does not publish specific breed restrictions for cabin travel, but only small dogs and cats are accepted. No large dogs are accommodated on JetBlue (exception: some service animals). Cargo pet transport is not available.
What documents and health certificates are required to travel with a pet?
Documentation requirements vary by destination. For domestic U.S. travel, vaccination requirements vary by state. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands require vaccination documentation. For international travel, customers should check requirements using the USDA-APHIS pet travel tool, CDC website, and IATA online database. Customers are responsible for acquiring all necessary documentation before traveling.
How do I book a flight for my pet, and can I do it online?
Yes, you can book your pet online at jetblue.com, through the free JetBlue app, or by contacting JetBlue. Pets can be added in the Extras section during booking. If you've already paid the pet fee and your pet is confirmed, you can check in 24 hours before your flight online, on the app, or at an airport kiosk.
Are there special requirements for international travel with a pet?
Yes. JetBlue accepts small dogs and cats on most international flights, but each country has distinct policies and vaccination requirements. Restrictions, requirements, and documentation for both dogs and cats vary by origin, destination, date of booking, and date of travel. U.S. entry requirements for pets vary based on country of origin. Customers should use the USDA-APHIS pet travel tool, CDC website, and IATA database for destination-specific requirements. Pets are not accepted on interline/codeshare bookings.
Are there temperature-related restrictions for pets traveling in the cargo hold?
JetBlue does not transport pets in the cargo hold, so temperature restrictions for cargo do not apply.
What is the airline's policy on sedating pets during travel?
JetBlue's published pages do not specify a policy on sedating pets during travel.
Is there a dedicated contact for pet travel inquiries?
You can contact JetBlue directly through their website or app for pet travel inquiries. For service animal travel, JetBlue has partnered with the Service Animal Forms Portal to streamline requests.
