Must inform Iberia at least 48 hours before departure (or at time of booking). Maximum two assistance dogs per passenger on US flights (subject to US DOT 14 CFR Part 382). Assistance dog must be on lead/collar or harness at all times; cannot roam freely or occupy other passengers' space. Cannot sit in emergency exit rows. Therapy/emotional support dogs are NOT recognised as assistance dogs and are treated as pets. Assistance dogs are exempt from cabin restrictions on routes where hold transport is restricted (e.g. Iberia Express routes, LEVEL). Free of charge.

What types of animals are permitted in the cabin?
Dogs, cats, ornamental fish, tortoises and birds (except poultry and birds of prey) are accepted in the cabin, provided they do not exceed 8 kg including the carrier and meet all other requirements.
What is the maximum weight allowed for a pet in the cabin?
The maximum weight is 8 kg, including the carrier.
What are the carrier size requirements for in-cabin pet travel?
The maximum carrier size is 45 cm (length) x 35 cm (width) x 25 cm (height), and the sum of these dimensions must not exceed 105 cm. The carrier must be robust and ventilated (at least 16% of the total surface of the four sides) with a safe, leak-proof base. On Air Nostrum flights, the carrier cannot be rigid.
Can pets travel in the cargo hold, and what are the requirements?
Yes, cats and dogs (excluding snub-nosed and dangerous breeds) can travel in the hold. The maximum weight is 45 kg (pet + carrier). The carrier must be robust with a secure lock, comfortable for the animal, damage-free, well-ventilated, and have a waterproof, cushioned base. Prior authorisation through Booking Offices is required at least 48 hours before departure. For connecting flights, transit time must be between 90 minutes and 4 hours. Hold transport is not available on certain routes (e.g. Madrid to/from Boston, Fortaleza, Puerto Rico, Recife, Toronto, Washington; or any UK airport; or from Dublin).
What are the fees for traveling with a pet?

Is there a limit on the number of pets per passenger or per flight?

Are there any breed restrictions for pets traveling in the cabin or cargo?
Yes. The following dangerous breeds are not accepted in either cabin or hold: Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Doberman, Argentine Dogo, Brazilian Mastiff, Tosa and Akita. Brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds cannot travel in the hold but may travel in the cabin if conditions are met. Affected dog breeds include Boxer, Bulldog (all breeds), Pug, Shih Tzu, Chow Chow and others. Affected cat breeds include Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan and Persian.
What documents and health certificates are required to travel with a pet?
Requirements vary by route. For domestic Spain travel: official health card. For EU travel: pet passport showing microchip/tattoo and up-to-date rabies vaccination; proof of tapeworm treatment for dogs entering Finland, Ireland, Malta, Norway or Northern Ireland. For US travel: completed CDC official form (receipt required at check-in); valid US rabies vaccination certificate or USDA export health certificate if dog has been in a high-risk rabies area. For Argentina: animal health certificate from a licensed vet confirming disease-free status and valid rabies vaccination. At check-in, an IATA form is completed by Iberia staff.
How do I book a flight for my pet, and can I do it online?
Dogs, cats, tortoises and birds can be booked online at time of ticket purchase via iberia.com by selecting 'Pet in cabin' in the passenger drop-down. To add a pet later, bring ornamental fish, or book hold transport, you must contact the Booking Offices. All bookings must be made at least 48 hours before departure.
Are there special requirements for international travel with a pet?
Yes. Requirements vary by destination. EU travel requires a pet passport with microchip and rabies vaccination. US travel requires a completed CDC form. UK travel requires cargo transport only (no cabin or hold) and compliance with the DEFRA Pet Travel Scheme. Argentina requires an animal health certificate. Qatar (Doha) only allows hold transport (no cabin). South Africa requires cargo transport only. Always check the entry requirements of the destination country well in advance.
Are there temperature-related restrictions for pets traveling in the cargo hold?
Brachycephalic breeds are not permitted in the hold due to their susceptibility to heat stroke and breathing problems under stress or high temperatures. No other specific temperature embargo is stated.
