What types of animals are permitted in the cabin?

Pets are not permitted in the cabin. Only service/guide dogs accompanying disabled passengers are allowed in the cabin.

Can pets travel in the cargo hold, and what are the requirements?

Yes, dogs and cats (along with rabbits) can travel as checked baggage in the cargo compartment on international flights operated by EVA Air and UNI Air. Pets must be in an IATA-compliant rigid plastic container. Passengers must notify EVA Air at least 48 hours before departure, submit a 'Passenger's Declaration for Live Animal' form in duplicate at the airport, and provide valid health and vaccination certificates. Check-in must be completed at the counter at least 2 hours before departure (2.5 hours at London Heathrow).

What are the fees for traveling with a pet?

Pets and their containers are charged as excess baggage and excluded from the free baggage allowance. Weight (including cage) ≤32kg: 2 units of excess baggage charge rate. Weight (including cage) >32kg: 4 units of excess baggage charge rate. No oversized fee is charged. Service dogs travel at no charge. Is there a limit on the number of pets per passenger or per flight?

Each seated passenger may check in a maximum of 2 cages (unaccompanied minors excluded). Only one pet is allowed per container. A maximum of 5 containers are allowed per flight, except on A321 aircraft (pets not accepted) and B787 aircraft (long-haul: not accepted; short-haul: max 2 cages). Country/region limits may be stricter.

Are there any breed restrictions for pets traveling in the cabin or cargo?

Yes. Dangerous dog breeds (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Fila Brazileiros, Japanese Tosa, Pit Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Cane Corso) and their cross-breeds are prohibited year-round. Brachycephalic (snub-nosed) dog and cat breeds are prohibited from Apr 1–Nov 30 at Northern Hemisphere points and Oct 1–Mar 31 at Southern Hemisphere points, and are prohibited year-round for routes to/via/from Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam).

What documents and health certificates are required to travel with a pet?

Passengers must provide valid health and vaccination certificates, and any other documents required by countries of departure, transit, or entry. A 'Passenger's Declaration for Live Animal' form must be filled out in duplicate and submitted at the airport.

How do I book a flight for my pet, and can I do it online?

Passengers with a pet travel request must inform EVA Air reservation staff at least 48 hours before departure. Online booking for pets is not mentioned; contact EVA Air reservations or a travel agency for details.

Are there special requirements for international travel with a pet?

Yes. Restrictions vary by country. Notable examples: USA requires compliance with CDC regulations for dogs (effective August 1, 2024). Australia prohibits pets to Brisbane but allows from Brisbane; seeing-eye/hearing-aid dogs are accepted to/from Brisbane. UK prohibits pets being carried to the UK; pets can only be carried from the UK as checked baggage. Hong Kong prohibits pets on inbound flights; guide/assistance dogs are accepted in cabin with proper certification. China requires microchip and compliance with customs requirements; no 30-day quarantine if requirements are met. Canada has special CBSA regulations for commercial importation. Taiwan prohibits animals in airports under Civil Aviation Act.

Are there temperature-related restrictions for pets traveling in the cargo hold?

The cargo compartment maintains the same pressure and temperature as the passenger cabin. Seasonal embargoes apply for brachycephalic breeds: prohibited Apr 1–Nov 30 at Northern Hemisphere points and Oct 1–Mar 31 at Southern Hemisphere points. Brachycephalic breeds are prohibited year-round on routes to/via/from Southeast Asia.
